Thank you for volunteering to lead a chapter. The chapter concept provides an opportunity for sand dune enthusiasts to support ASA efforts to unite, inform and mobilize the sand duning community.

OUR TASK

The duning community is comprised of groups of people who camp and dune together. Our task is to encourage these groups to communicate with each other and to promote activities that will Protect their Right to Ride.

A chapter can be as small as a few friends or as large as a group of duning families. It can be as formal or as informal as the duners desire. The chapter can be sponsored by a sand-related business. The chapter may be people who work together who want to dune together.

The main objective is to encourage the sand sport enthusiast to be united and informed.

The attached flyer has been prepared to inform duners of the chapter program. A Glamisonline web page - www.glamisonline.org/chapter.htm - is available to assist in the formation of chapters and to assure that the chapter leaders and/or coordinators can be contacted. The ASA future web page will be http://www.americansandassociation.org/chapters/html/chapters.shtml

CHAPTER LEADER'S ROLE

The primary role of the chapter leader is to encourage communication amongst sand sport enthusiasts. You can do this through informal social
gatherings, e-mail, U.S. mail, a phone tree or whatever method works best for your group. The choice is yours, however it is suggested that each
chapter identify an internet-active member to relay information to your non-internet members. Information is available from the ASA website, the
quarterly ASA newsletter and periodic dune info meetings conducted by ASA.

Each chapter is encouraged to "Adopt a Shop" to ensure that the business community has the latest information.

The chapter leader should assist chapter participants in activities that will fulfill the following chapter objectives.

· Promote responsible duning
· Sign-up new members
· Provide volunteer support
· Link e-mail and U.S. mail members

The above objectives are self explanatory with the exception of "Adopt a Shop." Many sand-related businesses are not in a position to assign an employee to stay informed of ASA activities. Each chapter is encouraged to "Adopt a Shop" to assure that the business community has the latest information (flyers, membership applications, meeting notices, etc.). The chapter contact person would be available to answer questions and assist in "Rumor Control."

It is suggested that each chapter design an insignia or logo to put on their checkered flags. This will demonstrate that the duning community is united and is mobilized to Protect its Right to Ride.

CHAPTER COORDINATOR'S DUTIES

A chapter coordinator is available to assist the chapter leader. The duties of the coordinator are as follows:

· RESPOND to inquiries regarding chapter organization and objectives
· WORK with the ASA membership committee to maintain a chapter data base
· PROVIDE the ASA website coordinator the info required to periodically update the chapter web page
· COMMUNICATE with the chapter leader

The initial chapter coordinators are:
