Who is the ASA and Where did it come from?

The American Sand Association is an offshoot of GlamisOnLine.org.

Glamis On Line (GOL) originally was started to enhance the dune enthusiast’s image. More importantly, GOL set out to inform and clarify all important dune related issues thus helping to ensure a continuation of the Right to Ride at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) otherwise known as Glamis, Buttercup, Gordon’s Well, etc.

The ASA is the next logical step – a nonprofit corporation to collect money to fund activities such as getting more information out to the dune enthusiasts, promote projects that will make our dunes safer, and have a war chest to be able to mobilize the dune enthusiast on important issues.

Mission Statement

The American Sand Association is dedicated to preserving the right to ride while preserving the environment.

ASA Accomplishments

  • Hired Environmental consultants to survey the dunes for species of concern

  • Filed Lawsuit against BLM to reopen closed sections of the dunes

  • Distributed surveys to all businesses at Glamis, Gordon's Well and many motorcycle/ATV shops in Arizona and Southern California.

  • Arranged for the largest off road mail order firm to place flyers in every off road related shipment.

  • Enlisted support of Joint Chambers of Commerce in Imperial Valley and Board of Supervisors in Imperial Valley

  • Used previous donations to create 10,000 survey flyers that resulted in the largest and most widespread survey of Glamis visitors ever. Preliminary results of this survey have already reached the representative of Calif. State Senator David Kelly and two California Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Commissioners.  Periodic results will be presented to the Imperial County Supervisors, Imperial County City Councils, major Imperial County businesses, and Chambers of Commerce.  This shows our economic and political force and the need for Imperial County businesses and residents to oppose any limitations and restrictions on the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.

  • Providing Web Site development, maintenance, and Internet hosting services at no cost to the all volunteer BLM Technical Review Team (TRT), the first direct and official source of information available to the public about the Fees being charged at the ISDRA.  http://www.GlamisOnLine.org/TRT

  • Organized the largest and ongoing ISDRA e-mail mass mailing, reaching over 15,000+ duners, disseminating more information about the Dunes to more people than has ever been done before.

  • We stay informed on dune issues that concern the ISDRA at every TRT and OHMVR commission meeting.

  • We collect the best available information on the ISDRA from many sources and inform the public.

  • Initiated several calls to action.
